Frequently Asked Questions

WHY DO I NEED PAINT PROTECTION FILM?

Paint protection film (PPF) is the most effective way to protect your paint from stone chips, scuffs and environmental damage. It provides a durable protective barrier without altering the vehicle’s appearance, yet keeping your vehicle’s paintwork as good as new. PPF is OEM tested and motorsport approved in the harshest environments on 2 and 4 wheels.

WHY IS IT AN ‘INVESTMENT’?

When the time comes to re-sell / part exchange the vehicle the paintwork underneath the film will be as good as the day it was installed, hence not showing the tell-tale signs of mileage wear, so in turn could command a higher resale price than a non-protected car.

WHAT DO I NEED TO DO PRIOR TO INSTALLATION?

As long as the car or bike is fairly clean, nothing really. The vehicle will be fully cleaned and then the required areas to be protected will be surface prepared ready for installation of film, so nothing else is needed.

IS THE FILM CUT TO SHAPE ON THE VEHICLE?

Definitely not. We have pre-cut pattern designs for most models of cars and motorbikes from 2000 onwards. These are then plotter-cut at the authorized dealership premises and are ready to fit your particular model and derivative of vehicle. .

HOW LONG DOES INSTALLATION TAKE?

Generally speaking, for cars you should allow a day and for DIY bike kits at least a couple of hours, depending on the complexity of the pattern. If you can drop the car off in the morning and collect in the afternoon, it should be good to go.

HOW IS THE FILM FITTED?

All complete car kits can only be installed by an authorized PPF installer. For an idea of the process, watch the installation video on the 3M website. Motorbike kits are designed to be DIY installed and come with all the necessary instructions and equipment.

CARE AND MAINTENANCE: HOW DO I LOOK AFTER THE FILM? IS ANYTHING SPECIAL NEEDED?

Essentially, treat it like you would treat your paintwork (hopefully that’s by regular washing, with a ph neutral shampoo and the occasional polish!). We recommend using GTechniq C2 on the film (and paint) to make subsequent cleaning and removal of stains and insects easier.

HOW LONG DOES THE FILM LAST?

If it doesn’t get scraped or too damaged and is cared for (it’s a paint protection film, so if you scrape a wall the film may get damaged but your paintwork MAY not have been affected underneath) it should last for years. If required, the damaged section of film can be replaced with a new part without the need to buy a complete kit.

CAN I REMOVE IT? DOES IT LEAVE A RESIDUE OR REMOVE THE PAINT?

Yes, you can remove it (warming it up helps it to peel off easily) and it won’t leave a residue on the surface. If the paintwork was original factory when fitted, it won’t remove it either (a poorly cured re-spray is more vulnerable so always consult the authorized dealer prior to removal of film if your vehicle has had a re-spray).
